Shredders

Now here is a query for all you clear thinking people out there.....  you are out there aren't you ?

Why is it that when you shred paper, the weight of the shreddings is less than the weight of the paper you have shredded ?

I have just been shredding loads of old company files and the weight of the paper in the bag that contains the shredded paper is less than that of the paper before shredding !

Explain please?
