Virus protection

As discussed below, I have removed the bloated, computer slowing program called Norton Internet Security and have now subscribed to ESET Smart Security.

I initially had it on a free 30 day trial and loaded it onto two of the four Matzoman Towers' computers.

Mrs Matzoman commented straight away how much faster her computer was and I have to agree that mine is faster too.

So, I have purchased a two license deal from ESET and the only downside I can see is that it doesn't have parental control so Junior Matzoman will have to keep it on his until I come up with an alternative.

Well, that's done it !

I recently upgraded my broadband speed and have the potential to have 8 meg whizzing down the line.  Except that where Matzoman Mansions are I can only get just over 4 meg due to the distance from the exchange.

But, since upgrading the line things seemed to have slowed down and discussions with my ISP pointed to an over zealous Internet Security suite that I was running and suggested that if I removed it and substituted it for another less invasive program, things might improve.

Funnily enough, the next day I was in a customer's office and they have replaced all their Macs with PCs that come with the same security suite I had and he was commenting on how slow they were and that the IT bloke was looking into removing the programme.

Well last night I took the plunge, removed it and replaced it with a 30 day trial of another one.  The Internet speed seems to have improved dramatically so we will see how things go during the trial period.
